how do you like needles?

So... injections are something new in my life. Besides trying to lead as healthy and low stress life as possible there are a few medications that can be taken for MS that can slow its progression. I (along with my doctor) decided it was time for me to start one of those medications. The downside is that they are all injectable medications that are taken anywhere from once a week to each day. Again, along with my doctor, we chose the daily medication based on the results it has had in the past and more than anything the side effects should be easier to tolerate with this one.

I learned how to give myself the injections 2 weeks ago and have been doing it since. It certainly isn't fun, but it isn't so bad. The worst side effects I've experienced of this shot are the injection site reactions. The shot itself isn't painful, but about a minute or so after it starts to sting A LOT and lasts for about 30 minutes. Sometimes it itches, develops a bump and it can hurt like a bruise the next day, but I am happy to give myself these shots if it helps to prevent some future MS episodes and that will help keep my brain healthy. (the other medications I could have picked from all have side effects of flu like symptoms, they can be hard on your liver and can cause depression)

I think it would be hard to give myself shots! Way to go! Now, just keep those side effects to a minimum :).
